VinicioArcos-Naranjo

Economist and MSc in Development Economics. I study Ecuador's labour market and education system with microdata, and I build digital tools for better teaching and research. Research professor at Universidad Técnica de Cotopaxi, facing the volcano.

Econometrics in the service of public decisions

More than a decade across university teaching, applied research and advisory work for the public sector. What interests me is a model that answers a concrete policy question, not one that looks good in a table.

Education
MSc in Economics, Development Economics track, FLACSO Ecuador, on a graduate scholarship. Economist, Universidad Católica de Cuenca. Doctoral fellow at FLACSO.
Public sector
Advisor at the IESS, Ecuador's social security institute: financial and actuarial studies for the Labour Justice Act and for the coverage of unpaid household work. Director of Participation at the Superintendency of Information.
Training
Trainer on labour and social affairs for the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES-ILDIS), at its Permanent Training School for Social Actors.
Methods
Impact evaluation of social policy, econometrics, inferential and predictive statistics, economic modelling, investment project appraisal and environmental economic valuation.
Tools
Python, R, Stata, SPSS, QGIS, GeoDa, KoboToolbox, Power BI and Tableau.
Languages
Spanish and advanced English.

What the microdata show

I work with household surveys and censuses from INEC, Ecuador's statistics institute, to understand who lands a job that matches their training, how wages are distributed, and how identities pass from one generation to the next.
